CENTRE COUNTY — In Centre County high school football action in Week 2 of the 2026 season, Philipsburg-Osceola and Bellefonte both made up for first week losses with impressive wins, but Penns Valley fell despite putting up 20 points and over 300 yards of total offense at home against Central Cambria.
Here’s a closer look at each game:
Philipsburg-Osceola 34, Chestnut Ridge 14
P-O running back Demarcus Law ran 16 times for 133 yards and three touchdowns and returned a punt for another touchdown in the Mounties’ 34-14 victory over Chestnut Ridge on Friday night in Philipsburg.
The Mounties, after a double-digit loss last week at Central, came out swinging and raced to a 20-0 halftime lead and coasted home from there for their first win of the new season.
Law got things rolling with a three-yard touchdown run on P-O’s first possession of the game, and then after a defensive stop, he took the ensuing punt and returned it 55 yards for a 12-0 first quarter lead.
While the Mountie defense was keeping CR in check, P-O struck again on another short run by Law, and then quarterback Archer Baughman took in a two-point conversion to put the score at 20-0.
Chestnut Ridge did begin to move the ball in the second half, scoring touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.
P-O kept pace, however, with a passing touchdown from Baughman to Kellan Cope and Law’s third rushing touchdown.
In all, the Mounties ran for 309 yards, led by Law’s 133, 72 by Aaron Davis and 60 by Connor Guenot.
Baughman completed 4-of-9 attempts for 66 yards and a touchdown. Law caught four passes for 48 yards while Guenot caught one for 10 yards and Cope one for eight yards and the touchdown.
Law finished the game with 244 all-purpose yards that included 63 yards on punt returns.
The Mounties now will take on local, long-time rival Clearfield, 1-1, at home on Friday night.
Bellefonte 28, Forest Hills 21
The Bellefonte Red Raiders rolled to a 21-point lead after three quarters against Forest Hills at home on Friday, but then had to withstand a furious Ranger rally to finally record an exciting 28-21 victory.
Bellefonte built an early 21-0 lead after two running touchdowns by quarterback Alten Howell, but Forest Hills struck late in the second quarter to make it 21-7 going into the locker rooms.
Howel subsequently scored again in the third quarter to restore the Raider three-score lead, and the rest was left up to the Raider defense.
Forest Hills did not quit, however.
The Rangers scored with five minutes left in the fourth quarter to make it 28-14, and then quickly turned around with a passing touchdown with just under four minutes that suddenly made it a one-score, 28-21 game.
Bellefonte toughened, though, and ran it out for the Raiders’ first win and a 1-1 record.
In all, Bellefonte totaled 401 yards of offense in the game, including 331 and three touchdowns on the ground.
Bentlee Hall led the runners with 111 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while Alten Howell ran 18 times for 88 yards and three touchdowns.
Alten Howell also passed for 48 yards, with his brother Ashten leading the receivers with two catches for 34 yards.
Bellefonte will next travel to Altoona on Saturday to take on LHAC contender Bishop Guilfoyle.
Central Cambria 37, Penns Valley 20
The Central Cambria Red Devil football team built a big lead over Penns Valley on Friday night and held on for a 37-20 win over the Rams in Spring Mills.
CC shot out to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter, but PV scored on a 12-yard run by Cael Smith and the teams went into halftime with the Devils ahead, 24-6.
The Rams’ offense would start up in the second half and score two more touchdowns—the first in the third quarter on a 31-yard pass from Smith to Spencer Althouse and then a 5-yard pass from Smith to Christian Merrill in the fourth quarter.
CC countered with two short TD runs, and the Devils were able to close out the game at 37-20.
Penns Valley ran up 308 yards of offense, including 180 on the ground, and Smith threw for another 128.
Smith led the PV runners with 89 yards and a touchdown, while Tripp Watson added 55 yards.
Althouse was the top receiver with three catches for 37 yards and a touchdown.
PV fell to 0-2 for the season with a trip to local LHAC rival Bald Eagle Area coming up on Friday night.
